We're not a big fan of the blogospheric meme game, but we feel just silly enough today to join in the propagation of this meme which we got from blogger Osbert Parsley of This Blog Will Change the World who got it from blogger Daniel Wolf of Renewable Music, the originator of the meme. And so herewith, and without further ado, our memic contribution.
1. Josquin or Palestrina?
A bit of a tossup, but Palestrina.
2. Bach or Händel?
George Frideric's lofty, noble architecture notwithstanding, Bach.
3. Haydn or Mozart?
Haydn's perfectly crafted structures notwithstanding, we prefer the transcendent to the earthbound. Mozart.
4. Beethoven or Rossini?
This is a trick question, right?
5. Brahms or Wagner?
Oh golly gee...let's see...we choose...Wagner.
6. Verdi or Puccini?
Verdi — hands down.
7. Debussy or Ravel?
A Frog is a Frog is a Frog. Heard one, heard 'em all. Tossup.
8. Strauss or Mahler?
Ah! The masters of excess. On that ground, we choose Mahler.
9. Stravinsky or Schönberg?
Toughie. Stravinsky.
10. Cage or Carter?
We know very little of Carter's work, but given that Cage was an out-and-out charlatan and Carter is not, we choose Carter.
Bonus round:
1. Astaire or Kelly?
No contest. Astaire.
2. Yeats or Elliot [sic]?
Eliot.
3. Joyce or Mann?
Joyce.
4. Welles or Hitchcock?
Almost a trick question. Welles, of course.
5. Duchamp or Picasso?
As we are an art (as in painting) dummy, no choice.

It's The Music, Stupid!
