A Rare Sighting

Well, well, well. Whaddaya know. A rare Terry Teachout About Last Night meaty blog post not promoting himself. And it's a good one, too.

Such is life under [today's American] democracy. We can use our TV sets to watch Peri Gilpin and Larry King, or The Light in the Piazza. We can pay a visit to a sculpture park, and chat on our cell phones while doing so. We can use our computers to communicate with fellow aesthetes halfway around the world, or to download kiddie porn. To a greater extent than at any previous time in the history of the world, our lives are up to us—and we’re on our own.
