Answer: This (from top to bottom):
1: Laura Whalen as Woglinde and Allyson McHardy as Flosshilde
2: Joni Henson as Gutrune and Mats Almgren as Hagen
3: Christian Franz as Siegfried and Frances Ginzer as Brünnhilde
4: Colleen Skull as Wellgunde, Laura Whalen as Woglinde, and Allyson McHardy as Flosshilde (the three Rhinemaidens) with Christian Franz (seated) as Siegfried
in The Canadian Opera Company's new production of Götterdämmerung.
I blame this all on the Bayreuth Festspiele and Wagner's wolf-cub grandsons, Wieland und Wolfgang, and each time a Eurotrash monstrosity like the above is mounted anywhere in the world the wolfish Sorcerer of Bayreuth must surely spin in his grave like a driven-to-distraction dervish — or be reduced to tears of anguish and sorrow — knowing that his own flesh and blood bears the ultimate responsibility for the outrage.
