When, in my prior post, I declared August the cruelest month, I had, in retrospect, no real idea of just how cruel it could be. This August brought to our Gulf coast, and to New Orleans particularly, a catastrophe of truly jaw-dropping proportions; a catastrophic, almost criminal demonstration of federal government ineptitude and lack of foresight and vision in response to that catastrophe that's surely without precedent in American history; and while it pales to insignificance when measured against the enormity of the above two catastrophes a personal catastrophe wholly unexpected, and, on a strictly personal level, no less devastating. Until things get straightened out with that, one way or the other, there will be nothing new posted on this blog for the near-term future. Much as I value my readers, I write this blog mostly for myself, and so I offer the above not as justification or apology for the lack of new posts, but merely as explanation to those of you who might have been looking forward to my first post-August-hiatus post here.
With luck, I shall return in the not-too-distant future.
