I've studiously avoided posting anything political on this weblog because it's all so tiresome. But the here-and-now reality of this so stunned me that I simply need to post it.
We're headed for the falls and total catastrophe in Iraq. Almost nothing can save the situation now short of the miracle of the establishment, within the next three months, of a new Iraqi government so solid and beloved by the overwhelming majority of the Iraqis that they'll be willing [as a newly constituted Iraqi army] to fight and die for it; not for a paycheck as now, but for love of country.

Gee. Who coulda guessed.
The neocon incompetents really screwed the pooch on this one right from Day One. Everything that could have been done wrong, was. Every decision that could have been decided wrong, was. Everything that should have been considered and planned for, wasn't.
The bloody woodenheaded ideologues are batting 1000 in this game. So far, they haven't missed a single wrong move.
